The Negative Effects Of Alcohol Can Have On You

Alcohol has both long term and short term negative effects on our bodies and these are explained below.

The short term negative effects of alcohol can be easily seen the obvious is that you get drunk. One of first systems to be affected is the nervous system. Our nervous system controls many important aspects of our bodies such muscle control, speech and our senses to list a few. When drunk the communication between our bodies and the nervous system however the alcohol effects the analysis of the information sent to our nervous system causing common symptons; sweating, balance, blurry vision and slurring.

Hangovers are the chain effect from the alcohol the night before. Due to alcohols diuretic properties the kidneys divert liquids towards the bladder, increasing the rate of which fluid exits the body causing you to dehydrate. When hungover users feel thirsty, get the shakes, still feel drunk/dizzy and have a headache. All of which are caused by the dehydration.

Long term effects

Weight Gain – Some may not know about the high calories in alcoholic beverages. A glass of wine on average can contain 100 calories, but when we go on a night out how many people stick at 1 glass? Guiness for example has 170 calories in a pint, and WKD blue contains 228 per bottle. So after 10 drinks you have consumed more than a days worth of calories.

Cancer

Alcohol can be related to various types of cancer such as throat and mouth cancer. The chances of these can be increase with just 3 units a day.

Heart Problems

As mentioned above in the short effects, the muscles are affected and this includes those in your heart. This heavily increases the chances of heart disease and 8 units a day can double this along with high blood pressure. The same stands with women and 6 units.

The Liver

Alcohol and its effects to the liver is probably one of the most talks about bad effects of alcohol. One of the livers main functions is to ensure the blood is clearn by filtering. If it takes 1 hour to take care of 1 unit of alcohol you can imagine how many problems a regular 30 unit binge is going to cause one of which is liver disease.

Liver disease can be fatal and in 2007, 4580 british citizens died from liver disease that was the result of drinking. Recently it has been stated that death by liver disease is rising amoungst young adults due to heavy drinking.

Mental Health

Many people think drinking can make them happier when going through a rough time. However the truth is quite the opposite. Alcohol has been known to cause depression, anxiety and cause memory loss.

Drinking can be enjoyable if consumed safely and in moderation and users should be comfortably and it is recommended you know your limit and stop when you reach it. Although there may be a lot of negative effects of alcohol, it can be enjoyed from time to time.

Life Extension's Anti-Alcohol Antioxidants 100Caps

Life Extension’s Anti-Alcohol Antioxidants 100Caps

$22.95

Description: Anti-Alcohol Antioxidants Capsules 100Tabs.Consuming alcoholic beverages results in the generation of free radicals. People who drink a lot of alcohol often suffer because of massive free radical-induced cellular damage. Alcohol-induced free radical assault can wreak short-term havoc throughout the body, and these same damaging free radicals are associated with accelerated aging.Reactive oxygen species (ROS) have been associated with acute ethanol-induced liver damage. A study published in the journal Artery confirmed a specific toxic metabolite of alcohol (acetaldehyde) and identified an antidote (N-acetyl-L-cysteine): ?All known pathways of ethanol metabolism result in the production of acetaldehyde, a highly reactive compound. N-acetyl-L-cysteine (NAC), an analogue of the dietary amino acid cysteine, binds acetaldehyde, thus preventing its damaging effect on physiological proteins.?55 NAC is a glutathione precursor and direct antioxidant. Pretreatment with or co-administration of NAC helps to inhibit acute ethanol-induced liver damage via counteracting ethanol-induced oxidative stress.56,57 NAC also attenuates the progression of the abnormal retention of lipids within liver cells by decreasing development of oxidative stress and subsequent increases in TNF-alpha.Thus, when people are exposed to a known toxic substance such as alcohol, it makes perfect sense to take a proven antidote ? namely, antioxidants.Anti-Alcohol Antioxidants with HepatoProtection Complex is an improved formula containing additional antioxidants designed to suppress free radicals, neutralize toxic alcohol metabolites such as acetaldehyde,58-61 and support healthy liver function. In addition to vitamin B1, vitamin C, N-acetyl-L-cysteine and benfotiamine, this formula?s HepatoProtection Complex provides therapeutic doses of these novel antioxidants:?Chlorophyllin ? an agent that protects the body from oxidative stress.?Leucoselect grapeseed extract, silymarin (from milk thistle), and resveratrol ? three hepatoprotective agents that aid in reducing compounds from potentially toxic xenobiotics and protecting cells from free radical-induced oxidative stress. ?Picroliv Picrorhiza kurroa root extract ? contains antioxidant kutkin that scavenges alcohol-induced excess free radicals and stimulates regeneration of cells (hepatocytes). Taking the proper supplements before and after drinking can substantially protect liver cells from the free-radical damaging effects of alcohol consumption. Supplement Facts: Serving Size 6 capsulesServings Per Container 16 Amount Per Serving Vitamin C (as ascorbic acid) 3000 mg Vitamin E (as D-alpha tocopheryl succinate) 50 IU Thiamine (vitamin B1) (as thiamine HCI) 100 mg Zinc (as zinc oxide) 8 mg Selenium (as sodium selenate) 25 mcg N-acetyl-L-cysteine 1200 mg Glutathione (reduced) 50 mg Benfotiamine 750 mg HepatoProtection Complex Chlorophyllin (from sodium magnesium chlorophyllin) 20 mg Leucoselect grape seed (Vitis vinifera

 Acetaldehyde-Related Pathology

Acetaldehyde-Related Pathology

$154.04

Part of the prestigious Novartis Foundation, this is the first book to review the pathology associated with acetaldehyde, a known toxic agent found in cigarette smoke and other pollutants and derived from ingested alcohol, amongst other sources. In the body, acetaldehyde affects several tissues, particularly the brain and liver, causing various diseases, including cancer, alcoholic liver disease and Alzheimer s. Acetaldehyde-Related Pathology describes the toxic effects of acetaldehyde at the tissue and cellular levels, reviewing enzyme biochemistry, transgenic mouse models of alcohol dehydrogenase mutants, and the cell-signalling pathways implicated in alcohol-related pathology. It explores the mechanisms of acetaldehyde-induced damage to tissues, often a first step in carcinogenesis, including the oral cavity, the human airway, and the GI tract. The book considers pharmacological strategies and treatments for reducing oral and intestinal acetaldehyde. Acetaldehyde-Related Pathology features in-depth, round-table discussions by an international array of scientists from major laboratories worldwide involved in studies of acetaldehyde-related pathology. This book is essential reading for anyone interested in the effects of this compound – pathologists, biochemists, toxicologists, cell and molecular biologists.
