Life Extension’s Anti-Alcohol Antioxidants 100Caps $22.95 Description: Anti-Alcohol Antioxidants Capsules 100Tabs.Consuming alcoholic beverages results in the generation of free radicals. People who drink a lot of alcohol often suffer because of massive free radical-induced cellular damage. Alcohol-induced free radical assault can wreak short-term havoc throughout the body, and these same damaging free radicals are associated with accelerated aging.Reactive oxygen species (ROS) have been associated with acute ethanol-induced liver damage. A study published in the journal Artery confirmed a specific toxic metabolite of alcohol (acetaldehyde) and identified an antidote (N-acetyl-L-cysteine): ?All known pathways of ethanol metabolism result in the production of acetaldehyde, a highly reactive compound. N-acetyl-L-cysteine (NAC), an analogue of the dietary amino acid cysteine, binds acetaldehyde, thus preventing its damaging effect on physiological proteins.?55 NAC is a glutathione precursor and direct antioxidant. Pretreatment with or co-administration of NAC helps to inhibit acute ethanol-induced liver damage via counteracting ethanol-induced oxidative stress.56,57 NAC also attenuates the progression of the abnormal retention of lipids within liver cells by decreasing development of oxidative stress and subsequent increases in TNF-alpha.Thus, when people are exposed to a known toxic substance such as alcohol, it makes perfect sense to take a proven antidote ? namely, antioxidants.Anti-Alcohol Antioxidants with HepatoProtection Complex is an improved formula containing additional antioxidants designed to suppress free radicals, neutralize toxic alcohol metabolites such as acetaldehyde,58-61 and support healthy liver function. In addition to vitamin B1, vitamin C, N-acetyl-L-cysteine and benfotiamine, this formula?s HepatoProtection Complex provides therapeutic doses of these novel antioxidants:?Chlorophyllin ? an agent that protects the body from oxidative stress.?Leucoselect grapeseed extract, silymarin (from milk thistle), and resveratrol ? three hepatoprotective agents that aid in reducing compounds from potentially toxic xenobiotics and protecting cells from free radical-induced oxidative stress. ?Picroliv Picrorhiza kurroa root extract ? contains antioxidant kutkin that scavenges alcohol-induced excess free radicals and stimulates regeneration of cells (hepatocytes). Taking the proper supplements before and after drinking can substantially protect liver cells from the free-radical damaging effects of alcohol consumption. Supplement Facts: Serving Size 6 capsulesServings Per Container 16 Amount Per Serving Vitamin C (as ascorbic acid) 3000 mg Vitamin E (as D-alpha tocopheryl succinate) 50 IU Thiamine (vitamin B1) (as thiamine HCI) 100 mg Zinc (as zinc oxide) 8 mg Selenium (as sodium selenate) 25 mcg N-acetyl-L-cysteine 1200 mg Glutathione (reduced) 50 mg Benfotiamine 750 mg HepatoProtection Complex Chlorophyllin (from sodium magnesium chlorophyllin) 20 mg Leucoselect grape seed (Vitis vinifera |

Contribution of coping patterns to health status of informal caregivers: Conceptualizing heterogeneous coping patterns. $49.99 Coping mechanism has been long studied to explain large variations in the health status of informal caregivers caring for frail older adults. Many studies have identified various coping strategies and their co-occurrence. Nevertheless, few studies address interrelations between these coping strategies and there is no consensus on which strategy is more efficient to improve health status. Therefore, this study aims to conceptualize coping patterns, identify their interrelations, determine predictors related to these coping patterns, and examine coping efficacy on health status.;Using data from the 2004 National Long-Term Care and Informal Caregiver Survey (N=1908), Latent Class Analysis (LCA) classified homogeneous subgroups based on stress management behaviors (spending time alone, eating, drinking alcohol, meditation, talking with friends/relatives, exercising/hobbies, smoking, watching TV, reading, medications, and counseling) and formal service utilizations (day care/senior center, house modification, assistive devices, financial information, support group, respite service, personal/nursing care, housework service, meal delivery, and transportation). As guided by the Stress and Coping model (Lazarus & Folkman, 1984), multinomial logistic regressions identified predictors of coping patterns and examined the effects of coping patterns on health status.;LCA classified stress management behavior (SMB) and formal service use (FSU) patterns. For SMB, four coping groups were classified: 3% unconstructive engagement copers; 43% constructive selection copers; 33% unconstructive selection copers; and 21% constructive disengagement copers. FSU composed three subgroups: 23% multiple service users; 36% selected service users; and 41% light service users. Constructive selection copers and constructive disengagement copers were less likely to use formal services. Stressors more significantly influenced FSU than SMB patterns. While more capable caregivers were consistently less |

Expressions of Drunkenness (Four Hundred Rabbits) $60 Interpretations by different disciplines of the terms intoxication and drunkenness are often inconsistent, creating confusion and inefficiencies in efforts to combat the negative effects of certain drinking behaviors. With this in mind, the International Center for Alcohol Policies (ICAP) and DrinkWise Australia collaborated to prepare a publication that seeks to advance understanding of the individual and collective meanings, purposes, and functions of drunkennessa an insight that is a prerequisite for achieving long-term, self-sustaining cultural change. The chapters of this book discuss intoxication and drunkenness from three perspectives: biological, cultural, and social. By placing intoxication and drunkenness into these contexts, the book is able to offer language and conceptual tools to help advance the ongoing discussion on how best to reduce alcohol-related harm and encourage responsible enjoyment of beverage alcohol. |
