Neil Young American Stars N Bars Rock Music CD Review
Neil Young, very talented Rock artist has released him latest album titled American Stars N Bars and Wow! It’s really a good one.
Refreshingly, this was one of those CDs I was able to just pop in and comfortably listen to from beginning to end. Every track is enjoyable and was pretty easy for me to listen to from start to finish.
These days it’s a very rare CD on which every single song is good or better than the one before it. This CD is certainly one of those rare CDs.
I’m of the opinion that American Stars N Bars is certainly Neil Young’s best work in a few years. A totally enjoyable CD and an outstanding release. What I call must have music. I give it two thumbs up because it’s a collection that even the casual Rock fan can appreciate and enjoy.
While the entire album is really very good the truly standout tunes are track 2 – Saddle Up The Palomino, track 4 – Hold Back The Tears, and track 9 – Homegrown.
My Bonus Pick, and the one that got Sore [...as in "Stuck On REpeat"] is track 1 – The Old Country Waltz. What a nice track!

Sleep, Baby, Sleep $8.00 Listeners familiar with Nicolette Larson’s early work as a vocalist with Commander Cody will know right away that this project comes from her smoother-edged solo career. She scored big-easy rock hits, after all, a cynic might add, so it makes sense that her first release of the 1990s (nine years separate this recording and its predecessor, Say When) would be softened by keyboard washes and muted r… |

The Very Best of Nicolette Larson $8.47 Nicolette Larson was a staple of California pop and soft rock in the ’70s, not only as a solo artist, but as a backing vocalist for artists as diverse as Commander Cody & His Lost Planet Airmen, the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band, Van Halen, and Neil Young. As a matter of fact, Young gave Larson her breakthrough hit, “Lotta Love.” The song turned out to be the peak of her popularity, climbing into the Top Ten in early 1979. She never had that kind of widespread popularity again, even if she had a few smaller pop hits to her credit, along with some success on the country charts. The charts may have changed, but the music really didn’t — she always walked the line separating country-pop and Californian soft rock. Throughout it all, her sweet voice was continually engaging, even when she worked with material that wasn’t always convincing. That much is evident from Rhino’s definitive retrospective, The Very Best of Nicolette Larson. Spanning her entire solo career, from her 1978 debut to her 1994 children’s album, the 16-song collection contains all the major highlights, but its momentum sort of sags toward the end of the disc, as her material grew weaker and her productions became too clean. Nevertheless, this is an accurate portrait of her career. If The Very Best Of isn’t quite as cohesive as her first few albums, so be it — it charts the ups and downs of her career quite well, and in doing so, it offers a definitive, warts-and-all summary. ~ Stephen Thomas Erlewine, Rovi Performers: Nicolette Larson – Hi String Guitar, Tambourine, Vocals, Percussion; Hollis Halford – Synclavier; John Jarvis – DX-7; Matt Morse – Synclavier; Paul Davis – Synclavier; Paul Matthew Davis – Synclavier; Victor Feldman – Maracas, Vocals (Background); Arno Lucas – Conga; Bobby LaKind – Conga; |

Excerpt: Steve Wariner is a Grammy Award-winning American country music singer, songwriter and guitarist. His discography comprises nineteen studio albums (counting a Christmas album), six compilation albums and fifty-five singles. Of his studio albums, three are certified gold by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) for shipments of 500,000 copies each: 1991’s I Am Ready, and Burnin’ the Roadhouse Down and Two Teardrops from 1998 and 1999 respectively. I Am Ready was Wariner’s first release for Arista Nashville following tenures on RCA and MCA Nashville, and Burnin’ the Roadhouse Down his first for Capitol Records. Out of his fifty-five solo singles, Wariner has reached Number One on the Billboard country charts nine times. His first was “All Roads Lead to You” in 1981, followed by two streaks of three consecutive Number Ones each: “Some Fools Never Learn,” “You Can Dream of Me” and “Life’s Highway” between 1985 and 1986, and “Small Town Girl,” “The Weekend” and “Lynda” between 1986 and 1987, followed by “Where Did I Go Wrong” and “I Got Dreams,” both in 1989. Wariner has also been featured as a guest performer on singles by Nicolette Larson, Glen Campbell, Mark O’Connor, Anita Cochran and Clint Black, and has featured Garth Brooks as a guest vocalist on two of his own singles. Wariner’s guest appearance on Cochran’s late 1997-early 1998 hit “What If I Said” became Wariner’s tenth Number One hit, as well as his first Billboard Hot 100 hit at #59. Although he never had any Number One country hits after this song, his singles “Two Teardrops” and “I’m Already Taken” (the latter a re-recording of his 1978 debut single, which peaked at #63 that year) reached #30 and #42 on the pop charts, as well as #2 and #3 on the country charts.
